Elections Committee for the Best Educator of the Semester

The Committee of the Best Educator of Semester consist of four students who will hold the position for a year. A gender-balanced committee would be preferred in accordance with the Gender Equality Act section. The Committee members are responsible for promoting and encouraging students to vote or/and nominate educators. Committee members will also review submissions of educator candidates, attend lectures of potential candidates and then finally decide on a winner. It is up to the members of the committee to meet and work at their own convenience. A member of the Student Board will also assist the committee.

Student Parliament 2: March 8th

Member of the Control Committee

-Two ordinary members

The Control Committee consists of three members who are elected twice a year; a leader at Student Parliament 6 and the other two members at Student Parliament 3. The position on the Control Committee has a term of office of 1 year. The committee has a duty to attend the Student Parliament, and at least two from the committee must attend. At least one member of the committee must be part of the counting corps. The control committee shall be represented by at least one (1) member at the student council dinners.


An overlap meeting (s) shall be held between the outgoing and incoming leader before the next student assembly after the new leader has been elected (ie before the constituent student assembly). The meeting will discuss the practice in the committee, as well as an orientation on current issues.

As a member of the control committee, you may not hold the following positions / be a member of:
•  The Student Board (AU)
• Student Parliament (representatives and chairmen)
• The University Board
• The Nomination Committee
• Leader in SiÅs

Student representatives to the SiÅs Board

-Two  main representatives (2 years) and two deputies (1 year)

The Student Welfare Association of Ås (SiÅs) has the responsibility of taking up the interests of students at Campus Ås. They have, amongst other things, been in support of the building or Eika, and now they are working on new student housing. The SiÅs board is the association’s highest board, and has responsibility for the overall operations, both strategically and economically. Students make up the majority of the board, and they have the president and vice president positions. The other committee members consist of one of the employees from SiÅs, one from NMBU, and one external representative. The committee governs itself. The position goes into effect on July 1st.

The representative is elected for 2 years, from 1st of July 2021.

The Board of the Student Welfare Association of Ås (SiÅs) is compound of these members:

- 4 student representatives with 2 deputies, elected by the Student Parliament

- 1 external representative with deputy, elected by the Student Parliament

- 1 representative from the employees of SiÅs

- 1 representative appointed by NMBU

Learning Environmental Committee

- Three representatives and four deputies (prioritised)

The Learning Environment Committee shall contribute to a good study and learning environment at the University, and to ensure that the physical and mental learning and work environment is fully justified on the basis of an overall assessment of the students' health, safety and welfare, cf. Section 4-3 of the University - and the College Act. The learning environment includes all factors that affect student well-being and that are within the NMBU's area of ​​responsibility, except for the academic study program. It also includes student welfare and student social conditions at the learning site.

 

The Learning Environment Committee (LMU) shall contribute to the University Board being able to fulfill its overall responsibility. LMU has delegated authority from the University Board to make decisions in matters concerning the learning environment and which are not of a strategic overall nature. The students are represented with half of the committee members, four out of eight members. From the summer of 2020, three of the student representatives will be elected by the Student Parliament, and the last representative will be from the Student Board.

 

The Learning Environment Committee has at least two meetings in the semester, where, among other things, they advise to the University Board how the Board should allocate 3.6 million, which is earmarked for major LMU measures. LMU also adopts the distribution of smaller learning environment measures, works with action plans, and follows up reports such as the SHOT survey.

Research Committee of the University (NMBU-FU)

- One representative and two deputies (prioritised)

The Research Committee is NMBU’s research policy organ and advises and gives strategic input to the University Board and the Dean in cases concerning research and research dissemination. The committee also handles cases delegated to them by the University Board. The committee has about eight meetings evenly spaced throughout the year.

Academic Affairs Committee of the University (NMBU-SU)

-Two representatives and three deputies (prioritised)

The university student council is NMBU’s educational-political organ and is tasked with taking initiative to give advice and input to the University board and the principal in strategic cases regarding education. Within this, we find admissions, studies and exams. The council also deals with cases from the University board. It is a paid position.

Chairperson

The main responsibility of the chairmen is to ensure that the Student Parliament goes through the planned agenda in an orderly fashion, and within a reasonable amount of time. The chairmen should have experience in leading meetings and should preferably have been a part of bigger meetings or many previous Student Parliaments. Normally the chairmen have a meeting with the president and vice president of the Student Board where they go over the agenda and make a time management plan. It is important that the chairmen follow regulated meeting practices, and it is therefore important that they are well-versed in this. The position gives both experience with structured meeting leadership and good insight into the Student Democracy’s work here at NMBU.

Central admissions committee

-Two representatives and two deputies (personal)

Not all who wish to study at NMBU by applying through "Samordna opptak" meet the grade requirements with their grades from secondary school. It is therefore necessary to have a central admissions board that can assess and rank the applications and decide which students will be offered admission to NMBU. The committee will consist of one faculty representative from each faculty, one representative from the Education Committee, and two student representatives. The committee has previously had about one meeting a year, in the beginning of July.

Representatives to the board of complaints

-Two representatives and two deputies (personal)

The board of complaints amongst other things handles complaints over formal errors with exams, and annulments of exams or tests. It is also the board of complaints that handles complaints about teaching and the learning environment. The position can be fitting for students interested in law, but that is not a requirement. The position begins on July 1st, and lasts one year. There is about 6-8 meetings a year. The position is paid for preperation time and for the hours of meeting, normally an entire working day.

The Student Board

- One leader and two members

The Student Board is the Student Democracy’s highest organ between Student Parliament meetings. They carry out the daily tasks of the Student Democracy, and follow up on decisions made by the Student Parliament. The Student Board prepares case papers for the Student Parliament. The board shall from 01.07 consists of 3 members: president and 2 board members, in full time positions. The Student Board is a “collective” board, which means that all members are equal within the board. The Student Board also has an organizational secretary.

 

An electronic vote for the new Student Board will be conducted during the Student Election in 21st - 28th of April.

 

The president has responsibility for strategic matters, and represents NMBU students in the highest levels of leadership at NMBU and outside of the university. The other members have responsible for organizational matters and work on educational policies. They also work with other representatives in the student democracy to ensure good training and information flow within the organization.

Female representative to the University Board

- One representative and one deputy

The University Board at NMBU is the highest decision making organ at NMBU and consists of an external committee leader, and committee members that are both internal and external to NMBU.

 

The University Board works mostly with strategic matters, budgets, goal setting, reporting, and organizational development at an overarching level. The University Board has 7-8 meetings per year. Apart from this, members should meet up for other high level meetings and seminars that concern the work of the board. The Committee members must also report their work to the Student Parliament, and should be represented during parliament meetings.

From students, there should be two main representatives and two substitutes for them. In accordance to regulations there needs to be an equal gender representation, and it has been decided that women are elected in the spring and men in the autumn.

Students who wish to run for the University Board should have experience in committees (institute committees, faculty committees, or similar) or board work experience at a higher level (U-FU/U-SU).

The Faculty Board is the faculties’ highest decision making organ, and consists of scientific employees, external board members and two student representatives. They work on cases of strategic character and have approximately four meetings a year.

Just like the University Board there needs to be equal gender representation, and women are elected in the spring and men in the autumn.

 

The representatives in all the boards are elected by electronic vote (Student Elections), start July 1st, and sit for a period of one year.

Student Parliament 4: 13th of September

Research ethics committee

-Two representatives and two deputies

The research ethics committee shall provide advice and information on ethical issues related to research, teaching and administration, and shall be a driving force in promoting ethical awareness among all employees at NMBU.
The Research Ethics Committee may be assigned tasks such as approving research projects and 3 shall contribute to ensuring that research ethics is systematically incorporated into the researcher and candidate education at NMBU.
The committee can process cases on the initiative of students and staff. The position is honored. Working language in Norwegian.

Committee for the allocation of welfare funds

- Two representatives

The committee for allocation of welfare funds processes all applications for welfare funds from teams / associations and makes a recommendation to the Student Parliament. The committee has one meeting per semester; one in the autumn to distribute the remaining welfare funds (8%), and one longer in the spring to distribute ordinary welfare funds (92%).

The committee consists of a total of seven people: Two AU members, the Finance Officer at Samfunnet, a student representative from the SiÅs board, a person who has previously sat on the committee and two representatives who are elected to the Student Parliament. The position takes immediate effect and lasts one year. Working language can be both in Norwegian and English.

Buddy General

-A sponsor general

The buddy general has the main responsibility for organizing the sponsor week in the spring and autumn, and will act as a link between sponsor managers and NMBU. As a Sponsor General, you get a good insight into life on Campus. One should be able to stand in front of large crowds, work continuously and independently throughout the year. It is a great advantage to have participated in sponsorship weeks before, as an active student, sponsor or sponsor manager. The sponsor general creates well-being, an inclusive environment at NMBU, and is a key person for the flow of information aimed at new students. The sponsor general leads the sponsor board, where sponsor managers, NMBU, the Working Committee and the Society are represented. The position has a duration of one year with immediate appointment. Can work in both English and Norwegian.

Student Parliament 6: November 9th

NSO delegates to NSO's national assembly

Here you have the opportunity to get involved in the national student movement and take part in important work that is done to promote the interests of about 230,000 students nationally.
The National Assembly is NSO's highest body. This is where the biggest and most important decisions in the organization are made. They deal with the articles of association, action plan, accounts, budget, reports and briefings, election of working committees, central board and new committee members, etc. The national meeting is arranged once a year and consists of representatives from all member teams in NSO. The national meeting is a large meeting with up to 350 participants.
It is expected of you as a delegate that you participate in meetings at Ås in connection with the national meeting where the agenda is discussed. The LM delegates get travel and accommodation for the national meeting covered. Can work in both Norwegian and English.

The Election Committee

The Election Committee has the responsibility of finding candidates for all positions at student parliament and other committees at the university level. Together with the Student Board, they market chosen candidates and prepare election cases for the student parliaments case papers. The election committee has the opportunity to submit their recommendations, and only does so when they find it necessary. The members of the election committee do not have the possibility of running for positions during their time on the committee, except for to re-run for the election committee. The members of the committee must attend the Student Parliament’s meetings and arrangements.

 

As a member of the Election Committee you play an important role in the student democracy! You work actively to reach out to all students at NMBU throughout the whole year to promote the different positions. You can expect close cooperation with the Student Board and Student Councils at the university. As a committee member you will work a lot with social media, email, and designing campaigns.
